Portrait of unfaithful Britain: Almost half the population has admitted to cheating

The downfall of a nation.

When it comes to love, the world is now our oyster - we can choose who to date, live with, marry or divorce.

But it seems having endless options hasn't stopped couples from straying.

A staggering 47 per cent of the British population has admitted to cheating on a partner - whilst 63 per cent have discovered they have been cheated on, a new survey has revealed.

Thrill: Human beings seem to be programmed to crave new things

But despite the nation’s infidelities, Brits are a forgiving bunch, with 42 per cent of those surveyed admitting they have taken back a partner after being cheated on.

Some (30 per cent) even confessed they would forgive their partner for having a one night stand.

Commenting on the findings, Sexpert Siski Green, author of How to Blow His Mind in Bed (Piatkus, 2010), said: 'The fact is that most of the population has done it, had it done to them, or at least thought about it.

'Human beings seem to be programmed to crave new things - new flavours in food, new music, new clothes - which is why making a relationship work, can be difficult.

'It means weighing up the pros and cons of an affair and realising that you have far more to lose than to gain with a fling. It also means finding ways to add novelty to your relationship so boredom or complacency doesn't set in.'

Over thirty per cent of respondents said they would let their partner cheat on them if it was with a celebrity.

Proving that she’s still got it, Cheryl Cole took the gong for being the celebrity that people would most likely let their partners cheat on them with (21 per cent), followed by Angelina Jolie (19 per cent) and Kelly Brook (13 per cent).

Surprisingly, Susan Boyle (eight per cent) trumped Tulisa Contostavlos (five per cent) in the celebrity stakes.

Motivation to cheat was usually fuelled by alcohol, with a quarter (25 per cent) of respondents blaming being drunk and not in control of their actions as the primary reason for their philandering ways, the MSN research revealed.

One fifth (20 per cent) of respondents said that revenge was their primary motivation, as they sought to get their own back on a cheating partner.

Anarchist student at the centre of St Paul's protest is the son of a property tycoon

An activist at the centre of the Occupy London protest camp is the son of a rich property developer, it has emerged.

Jack Hartcup, who is studying a philosophy degree, has played a major part in the demonstrations against capitalism outside St Paul's Cathedral and at the Dale Farm illegal travellers' site.

But until three years ago, the 21-year-old student was living in one of his father's £1.5millon apartments in North London.

He has insisted he does not share his 54-year-old father's ideals.

‘I’m an anarchist and I don’t believe in leadership,' he said.

‘I’m not set to inherit this fortune. I don’t believe in property.

‘My father has done very well for himself but I don’t intend to do what he does. He has gone along with the capitalist system.’

The Anglia Ruskin student, who hopes to become a philosophy teacher, has been a striking figure at the protests, wearing a leather jacket emblazoned with the words 'hate hate' emblazoned across his back.

Different ideals: Jack Hartcup, pictured with a friend, insists he doesn't want to be like his father. He said: 'My father has done very well for himself but I don't intend to do what he does. He has gone along with the capitalist system.'

His Facebook page is crammed with posters and videos encouraging others to protest.

He also boasts about being caught graffiting and having his jacket and trainers confiscated by the police.

In a post on the social networking site he says: ‘I had them repremanded (sic) off me when I was caught spraypainting a wall. both the leather jacket and dms had the same colour paint on them so they took them for evidence’.

Last night he said: 'I’ve been at Dale Farm and I’ve been here, but I’m not the centre of anything.

'I want to see real change in this country at an economic level. I don’t want to see us destroy the planet.

'It’s not something you can do by voting every four years. People are so tied down with jobs and other commitments, they can’t protest.'

His 54-year-old father, James, is the director of Eclipse Building Ltd, which owns the Eclipse building – a £10million development in North London.

Until 2008, Jack Hartcup was registered as living with his father in one of the 14 luxury flats, which sell for more than £1.5million and cost up to £1,500 per week to rent.

His grandmother, Adeline Hartcup, wrote Children Of The Great Country Houses; the book was published by the National Trust and explores the lives of children brought up in a privileged world.

Mr Hartcup's father confirmed he was aware of his son’s involvement with the Occupy London movement - which challenges the very nature of his own business - but refused to comment further.

It comes as the protests at St Paul's - which have forced the cathedral to close - were accused of being a 'big charade’ with only one in ten tents occupied overnight.

Footage from a thermal imaging camera shot by a police helicopter revealed that the ramshackle camp is almost completely empty during the cold nights.

It suggests the majority of the 300 ‘defiant’ protesters at the cathedral return home or to hotels after dark to sleep in warm beds.

Ran over a child twice 'because it was cheaper than paying the hospital bills'

Hey, it's not like they are killing children by the million by abortive means. No, wait...

A lorry driver ran over a five-year-old boy – and then reversed over him to make sure he was dead in an apparent attempt to avoid footing hospital bills for the child.

The sickening incident happened in Luzhou, western China, when driver Ao Yong hit Xiong Maoke as he left home to walk to school.

Witness Zhang Shifen said: ‘I saw the truck move back a little and then move forward again. Xiong became wrapped up in the wheel and the truck continued forward another ten yards.’

The tragedy comes just a week after two-year-old Yue Yue was knocked down by two vehicles on a busy market street. The child was ignored by 18 passers-by before someone came to her aid. She died in hospital a few days later.

In this latest incident passers-by said the lorry driver jumped from his cab after hitting the boy. They claimed Yong then asked: ‘How much shall I pay?’

Police said Yong, a 35-year-old lorry driver from Luxian, argued with the boy’s family about the size of the damages for seven hours.

After the latest incident, Yong denied reversing over the boy to kill him. Last night, police and government staff insisted Xiong died on impact.

Their investigation ruled that Yong was the first person to call the police after his truck hit the boy in the village of Yunfeng, in Luzhou, Sichuan province.

They said his body was not removed immediately because angry villagers were demanding instant compensation from the driver.

In heartrending scenes, the boy's mother sat shocked next to the covered body of her five-year-old son.

A string of such horrific cases have led to soul-searching in China, where the economic boom has been blamed for fuelling materialism at the cost of compassion.

Handing over compensation if an accident victim dies is seen by many Chinese as cheaper than paying for lengthy hospital treatment. The Communist regime does not provide free healthcare for its 1.3billion citizens.

Ignored: In a similar incident the previous week, Yue Yue was left with horrific brain injuries and never recovered

The fear of high medical bills is also thought to be behind a second accident in China in which toddler Yue Yue was knocked down by two vehicles on a busy market street.

The gruesome ordeal, captured by security cameras, showed the bleeding child was ignored by 18 passers-by before she was picked up by a scrap picker and given to her mother, who rushed to the street looking for her.

A week after the accident, she died in hospital.

Two drivers suspected of running over the Chinese toddler were arrested on Sunday.

The Beijing News and other outlets reported that police in the city of Foshan concluded their initial investigation and ordered the two men formally arrested, a step that almost always leads to a trial.

Solid majority of americans agree with #OWS. All 37% of them.

Source

In other words, the so-called “99%” are solidly in the minority.

But hey, that didn’t stop the AP from acting as if this poll is good news or something for the Occupy Wall Street (bowel) movement.

WASHINGTON (AP) – More than one-third of the country supports the Wall Street protests, and even more—58 percent—say they are furious about America’s politics.

The number of angry people is growing as deep reservoirs of resentment grip the country, according to the latest Associated Press-GfK poll.

Some 37 percent of people back the protests that have spread from New York to cities across the country and abroad, one of the first snapshots of how the public views the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. A majority of those protest supporters are Democrats, but the anger about politics in general is much more widespread, the poll indicates.

“Some 37%”? I guess it’ll be party time if they ever manage to crack 40%. Maybe this vaguely familiar-looking former MSNBC buffoon will push them over the top.

Young Hispanic Catholics Continue to Shift to Evangelical Churches

Perhaps hungry to assimilate into American culture, more second and third generation Hispanics raised as Catholics are finding the worship style of evangelical churches in the U.S. more to their liking and leaving the centuries old religion.

Although the trend has been reported in the past, a recent National Public Radio (NPR) article points to the shift led by young Latinos as the major reason for the increasing numbers of U.S. Hispanics leaving the Catholic church.

Even more specifically, a movement toward Pentecostal churches may be where the influx of Hispanics from the Catholic faith is seen most, according to NPR.

Reverend Wilfredo de Jesus of New Life Covenant Church in Chicago believes the Christian Church in the U.S. is hugely impacted by the country's Hispanics.

"No doubt, every denomination would have decreased in membership if it had not been for Hispanic growth, including our fellowship, the Assemblies of God,” De Jesus said as reported by NPR.

In a 2009 study reported on by The Christian Post, the trend was already quite visible and not only toward Pentecostal.

You cannot help but notice the changing relationship between Hispanics and the Catholic Church,” said George Barna, whose Barna Group published the research. “While many Hispanic immigrants come to the United States with ties to Catholicism, the research shows that many of them eventually connect with a Protestant church.

Isabel Monje, founder of the Christian outreach ministry called Transformacion Mundial, told CP on Friday that she has seen a revival among Hispanics who were formerly Catholic worldwide during the last three decades.

This revival (of U.S. Catholics) started in South America,” she said.

Monje said a big reason young Hispanics gravitate to evangelical and Pentecostal churches is because of the Latinos’ love for music.

The shift amongst Hispanics began in the 1980s’ with Marcos Witt, she said. Witt is the son of a missionary couple who lived in Mexico. He is a four-time Latin Grammy Award-winning Christian singer and pastor who has sold more than 10 million records in México, Latin America, and the United States.

Marcos Witt started in Mexico and then he came to the U.S. and he helped start a revival,” Monje said. “Because of him so many other worship leaders started copying him and followed in his footsteps.

As Latinos, we are into music. It’s in our blood. Those (in the Catholic community) were not exposed to churches doing concerts. The second generation wants to be more Americanized and they know that American Christians do concerts and seminars,” she explained.

However, Monje said she believes it is something more that worship music that is stirring the Hispanic community.

Christians are evangelizing more aggressively in the streets, as well as through concerts and such,” she said. “Also, it’s more about the word of God, as we can see, as they say in the last days that the Holy Spirit will be pouring through everybody.

"Christians are [currently more] into missions and into helping the community so all the [Catholics] see that Christians working in the community make a difference. They want to know more about why Christians are doing what they are doing,” she said.

"Occupiers" abuse a black man as a "N*gger"

If anybody else had used that word there would have been hell to pay. But Leftists can say anything they like, of course

A man who displayed a handgun at Occupy Portland’s downtown encampment after a dispute with protesters has been arrested, police said in a statement Thursday. The argument took place Wednesday afternoon when 32-year-old Jason C. Parker was challenged verbally by protesters after filming tents, police said. One of the protesters used a racial epithet against Parker, who is black, police said.

A witness said Parker was filming inside tents without permission and displayed the gun more than once after protesters at the camp displayed knives. “He pulled his shirt halfway up and showed me he had a piece,” said Jason Kersten, who works in the camp’s security group. “This is a peaceful protest. You don’t bring a gun.

Kersten acknowledged that someone used a racial epithet. “The N-word was used by some people in the camp,” he said.

Parker had a license to carry the concealed handgun. He was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct.

'OCCUPY WALL STREET' [HEARTS] WALL STREET

The worst thing about Occupy Wall Street is that it's ruining a good cause: hating Wall Street. Just when opposing Wall Street was gaining momentum, these brain-dead zombies are forcing us to choose between thieving bankers and them.

If the Flea Party were really concerned about the greedy "Wall Street 1 Percent," shifting money around to make themselves richer and everyone else poorer, their No. 1 target should be George Soros.

Of course, we don't know exactly how much money Soros has, since he keeps all his money in offshore bank accounts protected by Sen. Chuck Schumer (Democrat).

We do know that Soros has been convicted of insider trading. And we know that his general modus operandi is to run around the world panicking sovereign nations, so he can pocket the difference when their currencies collapse.

But the Occupy Wall Street protesters love Soros! It's Fox News they hate.

Last week, the great minds of the OWS movement, bored with playing bocce ball and getting stoned, decided to protest at the homes of Wall Street's robber barons. They then proceeded to walk right past George Soros' apartment building in order to protest at the homes of Rupert Murdoch and David Koch.

THEY'RE NOT WALL STREET!

You may not like Koch and Murdoch's products -- fertilizer and media -- but neither one has anything to do with Wall Street. Unlike money manipulators such as John Corzine (Democrat), Robert Rubin (Democrat) and George Soros (Democrat and Obama's biggest supporter), Koch and Murdoch make money from corporations that actually produce something.

They take risks, make things and get menaced by the government. Wall Street schemers take no risks, produce nothing and get bailed out by the government.

Even assuming, for purposes of argument, that Koch and Murdoch are as evil as these morons seems to think, the protesters call their demonstration "Occupy Wall Street," not "Occupy Businesses Whose Products We Disapprove Of."

This would be like protesting the Holocaust by walking past Adolf Hitler's house and protesting at O.J. Simpson's house.

The Flea Partiers try to win good will by pretending to protest "Wall Street" -- but they ignore Wall Street's villains. They claim to speak for 99 percent of Americans, but their sponsor, George Soros, would be delighted if America collapsed and the 99 percent were impoverished. All he cares about is his own power and pocketbook.

Recall that when the markets first opened after 9/11 and little grandmothers in Iowa were patriotically calling their local savings banks to find out how to buy a share of stock so that the American stock market wouldn't crash because of the terrorist attack, Soros said: Sell, sell, sell!

Now he's helping the cretinous Occupy Wall Street protesters.

Liberals love mob movements because you can't get mobs to think, which is perfect for Democratic ideas.

Do the Wall Street protesters even know that Obama got more money from Wall Street than any other candidate, ever?

These pea-brained protesters either admire or have never heard of the most egregious of the Wall Street looters and their co-conspirators: Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick, Jim Johnson, Rahm Emanuel, Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. Democrats all!

They have no idea that George Soros has a hand-in-glove relationship with the Democrats, having bought a whole slew of them, including Obama, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Patrick Leahy, John Corzine, Barbara Boxer, Mary Landrieu, as well as the Democratic National Committee.

Hamptons-vacationing, helicopter-flying, Russell Simmons party-attending New York bankers always give about 80 percent of their political contributions to Democrats.

And the Democrats always return the favor.

In the 1990s, President Bill Clinton repeatedly bailed out his friends at Goldman Sachs and Citibank under the tutelage of his Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin -- former chairman of Goldman Sachs. U.S. taxpayers were fleeced to prop up nations that were about to default on risky bonds purchased by Goldman and Citibank, such as Mexico (in 1995), Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea (in 1997), and Russia (in 1998).

Of course, if the bonds turned a profit, only Goldman and Citibank would benefit.

This is the Democrats' idea of "capitalism": Rich, Democratic-donating bankers get to engage in wild risk-taking; if the bets pay off, they keep all the winnings, but if the bets lose, they still keep the winnings, and the taxpayers get stuck with the bill.

Democrats are firm believers in the welfare state for their own constituents, whether that's a crack addict mother of five or a Wall Street banker.

Are the protesters aware that the Democrats' 2010 "financial reform" bill provides for future bailouts of reckless banks? Goldman Sachs and Citibank strongly supported the bill.

The protesters don't care -- they have no interest in actual malfeasance by actual Wall Street bankers. They're too busy denouncing Fox News. (Which did not, incidentally, receive a taxpayer-funded bailout.)

And these are the intellectuals of the Occupy Wall Street movement! Never mind the ones who just think stuff should be free and America is the moral equivalent of al-Qaida. They either know that they are benefiting Wall Street looters or are utterly brainless.

Given a choice between Wall Street looters and protesters defecating in the street, throwing rocks at police and chanting "F—k the USA," most people will choose Wall Street.

As always, the mob is serving liberalism.

Wanted man 'has tattoo of cannibal warrior on his shoulder'

  • Stefan Ramin, 40, went missing in Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia
  • Dental file sent from Germany positively identifies teeth as those of German adventurer
  • Investigators believe he was 'hacked to pieces and burned'
The local hunter suspected of killing and eating a missing German tourist has a tattoo of a notorious cannibal tribe on his shoulder, it emerged yesterday.

Henri Haiti is on the run after the remains of Stefan Ramin were found round a campfire on the French Polynesian island of Nuku Hiva earlier last week.

A photograph of Haiti, 31, pictures him with a distinctive tattoo just below his left shoulder, which shows a warrior from the Kaioi tribe, who were said to eat their victims.

According to experts, the Kaioi tribe used to live on the same island where 40-year-old Mr Ramin's charred remains were found.

Haiti, who was a member of the island's canoe club, sports the image of a Kaioi warrior in a canoe on his upper body, according to German tattoo expert Joerg Klein.

Pacific islanders have denied the claims that Mr Ramin was eaten by cannibals after insisting: 'We prefer hot dogs to people'.

Fears that outdoor fanatic Mr Ramin had been cooked and devoured erupted after his charred remains were found on a campfire on Nuku Hiva following a goat hunt.

Although locals described their shock at the island being linked to cannibalism, a picture of Haiti revealed that he sports a tattoo of a Kaioi warrior on his left shoulder.

Cannibal expert Dr Gundolf Kruger said: 'Polynesians are now Christian and literate, therefore pious and educated. But it is entirely possible that the criminal was led by old rituals into this crime.'

Journalist Alex Du Prel on the neighbouring island of Tahiti said locals were shocked at claims Mr Ramin had been eaten.

He wrote in his Nouvelles de Tahiti newspaper: 'Trust me, we'd rather eat hot dogs than humans around here.

'These tales of flesh-craving islanders are totally invented.

'Believe me, French civilisation has taught these people to eat cheeseburgers and canned food, not people. And the wild pigs we breed here are far tastier.'

Mr Ramin had been sailing around the world with girlfriend Heike Dorsch, 37, for three years when they stopped on Nuku Hiva on September 16.

The day he disappeared he had gone with his guide Haiti to hunt goats.

Ms Dorsch said Haiti later returned to their boat without Ramin and tied to convince her to come into the jungle, saying her boyfriend had been injured.

When she refused, she claimed he tied her to a tree and tried to sexually assault her.

She escaped and raised the alarm but Haiti had fled, police said.

The hunter is said to have 'an unrivalled knowledge' of the densely forested terrain and would 'probably find it easy' to elude his pursuers, officials said.

The 40-year-old from the small town of Haselau in north-west Germany was on a round-the-world trip with girlfriend Heike Dorsch, 37, when they anchored off the coast of the Polynesian island on September 16.

He went off on a goat hunt with Haiti - a guide registered with authorities on the island - and never returned.

It was only on Wednesday last week that the human remains were found. Among the embers were bones including a jaw bone, teeth and melted metal - believed to be fillings.

Mr Ramin, a fanatical sailor, was a former business adviser. He kept a regular blog of his trip begun in 2008 and one of his last entries read: 'I seek freedom and adventures'.

A family friend said: 'It is a tragedy that a man with such a zest for life should have his days ended in such a brutal fashion.'

He bought his catamaran Baju in Turkey and had planned to spend the next two years island hopping in the South Pacific.

On Facebook, he listed his interests as 'travelling, blue water sailing, kiting, kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, diving... actually everything which one can do on and under the water'.

Last month, they dropped anchor in Nuku Hiva, largest of the Marquesas islands, which over the centuries have featured in many reports of cannibalism.

Deborah Kimitete, deputy mayor of Nuku Hiva, told local news website Les Nouvelles: 'No one can believe what has happened. This has never happened here before, this is the first time, it's horrible.'

It was not clear whether Miss Dorsch is still on the island or whether she has returned home to Germany.

Nuku Hiva has a population of just over 2,000 and featured in the stories of Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick.

Rhode Island Atheist Student, School Clash Over Prayer Mural Lawsuit

A 16-year-old atheist said Thursday she is confident the law is on her side in her fight over a prayer mural that she wants removed from the auditorium of her high school. Jessica Ahlquist said her side is "very strong" after attorneys for her and the city of Cranston made their case to Senior Judge Ronald R. Lagueux in U.S. District Court in Providence. Ahlquist believes the mural should be taken down.

Ahlquist sued in federal court in April, saying the mural is offensive to non-Christians. Ahlquist has been an atheist since age 10. She is represented by the Rhode Island chapter of the
American Civil Liberties Union.

Attorney Joseph Cavanagh Jr., who is defending the city, says the mural is a historical artifact from the school's early days in the 1960s and serves no religious purpose.

He said the prayer is displayed in a secular, not a religious, setting. "It's not forced upon anyone. It's a historical document as a tradition of the school," Cavanagh said.

The prayer encourages students to strive academically and begins with the words "Our Heavenly Father" and ends with "Amen."

The school committee voted in March to keep the mural on display and fight litigation.

Gun-free England plagued by knifepoint robberies

Now what? Will England ban knives?
A rise in knifepoint robberies was last night blamed on overseas demand for expensive mobile phones.

The number of robberies carried out with a knife went up by seven per cent last year.

Police in England and Wales recorded 14,980 robberies at knifepoint over the 12 months to June, up from 13,994 a year earlier.

Total robberies were up 3 per cent, to 76,786 from 74,887.

Chief constable Jon Murphy, crime spokesman for the Association of Chief Police Officers, said: 'While there were falls in most police recorded crime and particularly in violence against the person, the increase in robbery and robbery with knives is a cause for concern.

'We believe this is in part driven by demand for mobile phone handsets, which can fetch more than double their worth on the black market abroad.'

He warned users to protect their handsets, such as iPhones and BlackBerrys, with passwords to stop personal details being stolen along with their phones.

The British Crime Survey of more than 40,000 households showed overall crime was up 2 per cent in the year to June, to 9.7million offences.

A Downing Street spokesman claimed many of the rises were not 'statistically significant'. But shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said the Government 'needs to take urgent action to cut crime instead of just cutting police'.

Anti-Semitic LA Teacher Fired

Who said blogs don't have any influence?

Los Angeles school officials say a substitute teacher has lost her job after making anti-Semitic comments during an interview.

In a statement Tuesday, schools Superintendent John Deasy condemned remarks made by Patricia McAllister during a protest rally last week.

In an Oct. 12 interview with Reason.com at a Los Angeles rally, McAllister said "Zionist Jews and the Federal Reserve" need to be run out of this country.

Deasy says that although freedom of speech is a protected right of public employees, the LAUSD can't set a good example for students while tolerating disrespectful, intolerant or discriminatory behavior.
One more trip down memory lane.

The myth of Scandinavian Socialism

Source

Just wanted to quickly share this post from the mises.org forums which serves as an awesome resource to combat the oft-repeated meme that Scandinavia shows that “mixed-economy-socialism” can work great. Full credit to krazy kaju for the excellent post. You can read the full thread here:

Many leftists often point to the “superiority” of Scandinavian “socialism.” Leftists often use Denmark and Sweden as their examples, since they are the most successful Scandinavian nations. I already covered this issue in an earlier post, but I feel it is important to rehash this topic and to post a refutation of this leftist fallacy. For this post, we shall define Scandinavian countries as Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland. Some might dispute whether we should consider Finland and Iceland as Scandinavian, because of cultural differences (Finland) and geographical barriers (Iceland), though we the point of this post is not to argue whether or not these countries are Scandinavian, but to dispute the fact that they are indeed successful socialist states.

First of all, most leftists will use the USA as the measure of laissez faire capitalism. We all know that this is completely false, so I won’t go into detail refuting this casuistry here but I’d like to point several things out: Hong Kong, Singapore, Ireland, and Australia were all rated as “more free,” according to the Heritage Index of Economic Freedom. It would probably be better to compare these Scandinavian nations to Hong Kong or Ireland than to the United states.

Furthermore, Scandinavian nations are not nearly as socialist as leftists claim they are. Although the United States ranks higher than these nations on the Index of Economic Freedom, Scandinavian nations are more free in several decisive areas. Denmark has greater business freedom, monetary freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom, freedom from corruption, and labor freedom while having comparable property rights and trade freedom scores to the U.S. Sweden has greater business freedom and freedom from corruption, while having comparable trade freedom, monetary freedom, property rights enforcement, investment freedom, and financial freedom to the United States. Finland has greater business freedom, monetary freedom, and freedom from corruption than the United States, while having comparable property right enforcement, financial freedom, and trade freedom.Norway, the least successful Scandinavian nation, has greater freedom from corruption than the United States while having comparable business freedom, trade freedom, and property right enforcement. Iceland has greater business freedom, fiscal freedom, and freedom from corruption, while having comparable trade freedom and property right enforcement. In many ways, Scandinavian countries are more “laissez faire” than the United States.

To finish of this deal, here are some articles, excerpts, etc. about the failure of specific welfarist policies the Scandinavian countries follow, change occurring in these nations, and the like:

NORWAY: LOWER LIVING STANDARDS THAN THE US

Here is one more thing of interest to everyone interested in living standards in Scandinavian countries vs. the US. First, according to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the CIA World Factbook, the USA has a higher GDP per capita than any Scandinavian nation with the exception of Norway. Norway has one of the highest GDP per capita in the world, right after free market paradises such as Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, and oil rich nations such as Qatar and Kuwait.

Although Norway’s GDP per capita seems to be boosted by huge oil and natural gas production, do Norwegians actually enjoy higher living standards than Americans? I dare say that they don’t. A quick look around worldsalaries.org shows that:
1. Americans enjoy higher average disposable (after tax) AND gross (before tax) income than Norwegians do.
2. Americans enjoy a significantly lower cost of living than do Norwegians (1.00 vs. 1.487).

Here (url: http://www.ssb.no/en/fnr/main.html) is another source of Norwegian disposable income. As you see, average household disposable income is 176503 NOK, which is approximately $29,373. Note that the USA has a per capita disposable income of about $21,500. Since the average US household consists of two wage earners, it follows that US household disposable income is higher than Norwegian household dispoable income.

Catholic Bishops Target Obama on Religious Freedom in the US

Catholic bishops across the U.S. want the Obama administration to take notice that it is destroying religious freedom and the rights of believers in America.

US Catholic bishops recently formed an ad hoc committee specifically aimed at addressing religious freedom in the U.S. The decision to challenge the president this way is a historic one, as this is the first time bishops in America have formed such a widespread group to address religious freedom in the country.

Among the religious liberty issues the group is unhappy with the Obama administration include: county clerks facing legal action for refusing to participate in same-sex unions; the administration's attack on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA); and the attack on the “ministerial exception,” which protects the right of religious institutions to choose their own spiritual leaders and teachers regardless of anti-discrimination laws.

In a letter obtained by The Christian Post, the Rev. Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York, wrote to the American bishops after the September’s meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

He writes: “We are now committed regarding the urgent need we face to safeguard religious liberty inherent in the dignity of the human person.”

“I wrote to President Obama to object to the continuing threats to religious liberty in the context of the effort to redefine legal marriage promoted by his Administration. …If we do not act now, the consequences will be grave.”

“In its many and varied applications for Christians and people of faith, is now increasingly and in unprecedented ways under assault in America. This is most particularly so in an increasing number of federal government programs or policies that would infringe upon the right of conscience of people of faith or otherwise harm the foundational principle of religious liberty,” he said in the letter.

Bishop William Lori, who was selected to chair the new committee, says the bishops are serious about the new campaign and will seek the help of lawyers, added staff, lobbyist and experts in the area of religious freedom.

“This ad hoc committee aims to address the increasing threats to religious liberty in our society so that the Church’s mission may advance unimpeded and the rights of believers of any religious persuasion or none may be respected,” Lori said.

Archbishop Dolan also stressed in his letter that "...as shepherds of over 70 million U.S. citizens we share a common and compelling responsibility to proclaim the truth of religious freedom for all, and so to protect our people from this assault which now appears to grow at an ever accelerating pace in ways most of us could never have imagined.”

Dolan also said the committee will work closely with national organizations, charities, ecumenical and interreligious partners and scholars “to form a united and forceful front in defense of religious freedom in our nation. And its work will begin immediately.”

He said that there have been multiple private letters sent to President Obama about his administration’s violations against religious liberty, but none of those letters received a response.

Time Magazine reports that despite the heated rhetoric, legal observers think the uproar about religious liberty could be politically motivated.

“To a certain extent, we are seeing a reply of the Freedom of Choice Act here,” Richard Doerflinger, who heads up pro-life activities, told Time.

“There is a lot of political ground to be made by having a campaign even if you are expecting a different outcome. But Health and Human Services must think the Catholics and other religious groups are fools.”

He says many of these issues really are a “great imposition on religious freedom and the right of conscience by the government that he has seen in years.”

Next goal for LGBT movement: Force adoptions of kids to transgender/ cross-dressing "parents"!

(MassResistance)

As we've said before: the homosexual movement is never satisfied. And children are a prime target.

And as we've also been saying, the "Massachusetts Transgender Rights and Hate Crimes Bill" and others like it being introduced across the country are ultimately not just about bathrooms. As early as 2008, we reported on the Transgender Rights march in Northampton, Mass. and its push for adoptions by the transgender community.

Head Start: In 2008 the Mass. Dept. of Social Services were at the Transgender Rights March giving out information on becoming foster parents.

The new national push

As the pro-family group Mission America revealed last week, the well-funded national homosexual advocacy group "Human Rights Campaign" is has a new goal in its jihad to change America. They want to force adoption agencies in all 50 states to be compelled to place kids in households with transgender or cross-dressing parents.

Slick but powerful approach

These people are experts by now pushing radical change in America. In this effort, they are starting out by setting up "informal" certification requirements (preliminarily called "benchmarks") for adoption agencies and then going around the country rating them on their "compliance."

These "requirements" currently include:

  • A "client non-discrimination statement" that "clearly bans discrimination on the basis of gender identity or gender expression."
  • Recruitment materials (website, printed materials and activities) that reflect the commitment to attracting and serving "LGBT" (T=transgender) individuals and families.
  • Training all employees to work with "LGBT" clients.
  • Documenting and tracking placements of children with "LGBT" parents to show their progress with hard statistics.

Read HRC's "Benchmark" list here.

Read HRC's article about their effort to begin implementing these "benchmarks of cultural competency" in adoption agencies.

After that -- finishing the job

Once these are in place, the next step is to work both legislatively and behind the scenes in state executive offices to change state laws and administrative regulations to make these "informal" regulations formal and official in states across the country. And with that will be strict requirements and punishments for adoption agencies and their employees who are opposed.

Good people must fight back

This could be a terrible battle for the minds and emotional health of innocent children. It is absolutely necessary that good people be prepared to confront this early while you still can.

We will help you do this!

Poverty and democrat policies

1965 was the start of the War on Poverty and these cities have a common story in that excessive taxes and regulations forced businesses to close. They elected Mayors who were consistently hostile to employers, and they end up with less business, less revenue and less employment.
Some of the well known Mayors are now gone but their mistakes remain.

Liberal Democrats do not realize that jobs are created by small businesses and lowering costs to employers. These cities implemented huge spending increases which required higher taxes.

They asked businesses to carry out their social agenda with laws, rules and regulations. The latter hides spending from political fall-out.

If you want less of something, all you have to do is tax it. They increased taxes and then added excessive regulatory burdens on employers. The result was that companies left, and hundreds of thousands of jobs left with them.

The good news is that after 50 years of evidence, some liberal Democrats recognize the truth. Mayors Dave Bing of Detroit, Cory Booker of Newark and Kasim Reed of Atlanta are cooperating with GOP Governors to implement crucial reforms. Bing in particular is reversing decades of leftwing damage, and we hope Democrats on Capitol Hill will listen to him.
